Thanks to Mary Kay! Not for the links above, which were cool, but for the ones she posted on her blog. I think I found the rose I was remembering, that we had in our backyard when I was a kid. It seems to have been Old Blush. Everything fits, the fragrance, the fact that the older blooms would be darker (which I hadn't remembered until I saw this). In fact, I'm now using this photo as wallpaper on this computer.
