Some good news! Not only does chocolate help prevent tooth decay, it's better for persistent coughs than codeine.
The study found that theobromine, found in cocoa, was nearly a third more effective in stopping persistent coughs than codeine, currently considered the best cough medicine.
Maybe I'll make 2 chocolate pies for Thanksgiving ...
This doesn't really surprise me, as theophylline, one of the active components in tea, is very effective in treating respiratory problems like asthma and such.

Just remember for you dog persons, chocolate and dogs don't mix. There are two problems, the theobromine is toxic and the fats can cause pancreatitis.
A dose of 50 mg/lb can be fatal to a dog. Milk chocolate contains 45 mg of theobromine per ounce and unsweetened baking chocolate contains 400 mg per ounce.
